Privacy — the short version

This is the plain-English version, for students. It covers the same things as the full privacy policy, just shorter. If the two ever disagree, that's a mistake on our side — tell us and we'll fix it.
What do you collect about me?
If you use Buaic without signing up, we hold a random ID and your study data — subjects, answers, XP and streak. You can also choose a public display name.
If you sign up, we also hold your email address. If you use the friends feature, we hold a display name, and your county and school if you fill them in.
That's it. We don't collect your real name, your address, your phone number, your photos, or your location.
Do you sell my data?
No. Not to advertisers, not to anyone. There are no ads in Buaic and no tracking across other apps.
Can my school or my teachers see it?
No. Buaic has no teacher accounts and no school dashboard. Your teachers can't see your answers, your streak, or whether you've opened the app.
If your school gave you a free-access code, we tell them how many codes were used — never who used them or how they did.
Can my parents see it?
No, unless you show them yourself.
What about my contacts?
If you turn on contact matching to find friends, your phone scrambles each contact's email before anything is sent. We only ever receive the scrambled version, and it can't be turned back into an email address. Your actual contacts never leave your phone.
You can say no to this and the rest of the app works exactly the same.
What can other students see?
Your display name, your county, and your XP — on the leaderboard and if they add you as a friend.
They can't see your email, your answers, or the questions you got wrong. Pick a display name you're happy for other people to see.
Do you track what I do in the app?
Yes, some of it — which screens you reach and where you get stuck, so we can make the app better. It's stored in the EU and it isn't sold.
You can turn this off in Settings → Share usage data. The essential service and security records needed to run your account are not product analytics.
What about my calendar?
If you connect Apple Calendar, Buaic reads busy times on your phone to fit your plan around them. Calendar names and event details are not uploaded. Buaic only adds a study event when you explicitly ask it to.
How do I delete everything?
Go to the deletion page. You don't need to log in and you don't need the app. We'll confirm it's you, delete your account within 30 days, and email you when it's done. We don't ask why.
If you bought Premium, Apple handles the payment and Buaic never sees your card. Deleting your Buaic account does not cancel the subscription: cancel it separately in your Apple subscription settings. We use RevenueCat to tell Buaic whether that Apple subscription is active on your account.
What if I'm under 16?
You can't use Buaic. The law in Ireland says we'd need a parent's permission to handle your data, and we're not set up to do that. Come back when you're 16.
Who do I complain to?
Email darragh@buaic.app first — we'll reply within a month, and usually much faster.
If we don't sort it out, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission, the Irish regulator: dataprotection.ie. It's free, and you don't need a solicitor.
